Pastoral

Each child’s happiness is of paramount importance. The Infant Block houses a secure and self-contained community where children feel relaxed and safe.

Each teacher is, of course, a key contributor to the well being of the children and through sound policies, good communication and thorough support procedeures, King’s is justifiably proud of its reputation as a very caring school.

The Infant Department runs a playtime 'Buddy' system whereby the older Year 2 children become helpers whilst the children are out at play. The Buddies wear red caps so that children can spot them easily and approach them if they need help. The Buddies also keep a watchful eye on the 'Buddy Bench' where children can go and sit if they have nobody to play with or if they have fallen out with a friend. The Buddies show them how to play games, find new friends or find the teacher on duty if more support is needed. The Year 2's enjoy the responsibility and they always look forward to taking their turn.

The pastoral care system is a major strength of the division…….Staff work hard and are committed to pupil care…..This is reflected in the attitude of pupils towards one another.” ISI Inspection 2003
